The events in Manchester on Yom Kippur have shattered our hearts.
We deeply mourn the tragic loss of Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz Z”L, who were murdered in the horrific Yom Kippur terrorist attack on the Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester. May their memories be for an eternal blessing.
Our thoughts are with their families and the families of those injured. And we keep in mind the members of Heaton Park Synagogue who are so closely connected with them.
Our thoughts and prayers especially go out to Jonny Finlay, one of our regular officiants, who was injured during the attack. We send our thoughts and prayers to him for a full and speedy recovery and a return to our synagogue.
We are so grateful to the CST, the police and Mike Swift and our own security team who are continuing to ensure our safety in Southport in the aftermath of this shocking incident.
As a community, we have received many messages of solidarity from the wider community – see this message from Paul McCann, Community Safety and Engagement Officer at Sefton Council:
We are deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific attack outside a synagogue in Manchester this morning, which has left members of the Jewish community grieving on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in their calendar.
Sefton Council stands in unwavering solidarity with our Jewish communities in Greater Manchester, Sefton and across the UK. We condemn this vile act of violence and reaffirm our commitment to the principles set out in the Unity Motion we agreed last year.
Sefton is a borough of many faiths, and we are proud of our rich history of diversity and inclusivity. We will continue to support those targeted because of their faith or race, and we denounce all forms of racial hatred.
Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by today’s tragedy.
